This is an isolated area and the land is managed by the National Park Service. Across the river is a thin band of Platanus occidentalis / Verbesina alternifolia tall herb community. On island see BLUE.128 . Along the stream edge is a thin patch of Carex emoryi. We are darn close to the edge of the study area. There are no signs here marking the park boundary.;The observation point is on the upstream end of a small high water island dominated by sycamore and big bluestem. The area appears to be open and flood scoured. There are lots of tiny clam shells intermixed with the sand. There is a dark hemlock / Rhododendron maximum patch across the backchannel out of the study area.
Representativeness
Small patch of open Platanus occidentalis / Andropogon gerardii cobble bar prairie. This is similar to the one sampled yesterday (BLUE.92) and the one sampled with Sue Gawler two weeks ago (BLUE.89). This patch is much smaller than either of the other pat
