This obs. Point and the last are broken up by a more typical oak - hickory community and a thin band of mixed-meso along the drainage between here and there. Above is a white pine - oak signature. Below is the oak - hickory matrix. Looking across the river is the plot Jim and I sampled earlier this August. For more context see obs. points & plots from 08/23 & 08/25.;Dry open shale woodland dominated by red oak - post oak - Virginia pine - Juniperus virginiana - Hickory. There are similar species to the previous obs. point (BLUE.130). It is less rich here with fewer forbs. This point looked less diverse. Although it had less coverage, it had more species because it is more open and shalier.
Representativeness
This is a small patch of "shale barren" woodland. The area is similar to BLUE.130 except here it is a more open "woodland". There is more Virginia pine here as opposed to previous site.
