This community type with variations in dominant oak, hickory and pine, repeats itself on the southerly facing midslopes of the Bluestone Gorge.;An old road winds up the main ridge line. This plot is located on a small ridge spur off of the main ridge. The overstory is even aged. Fire scars appear on the T2 trees and several burned out stumps. The soil is rather deep (40 cm).

This is a small patch of a large community type. It is example of the dry, oak - hickory community. This plot is slightly more mesic with higher herb coverage and diversity than average. The dominant oak is Quercus alba which is more typical of the Bluest
