This is the first plot in this community but I believe that it will be found on the other large disturbed floodplains in the Bluestone Gorge. Along the river is a typical PLOC / BENI community located on a younger alluvial terrace. The trail is located north of the plot. This is pretty much the break between the flood plain and the upland oak hickory. Between the plot and the trail the community becomes less mesic with Betula nigra and Platanus dropping out but Ulmus americana and Rosa remaining.;The area seems to be prone to periodic flooding. The forest floor has many low areas which are devoid of litter. The litter was probably moved by flooding.
