Above, the calcerous cliff several meters the forest transisitions back into the more classic acidic oak - hickory forest. Below, the rich calcerous community goes all the way to the trail. This community type seems to be found throughout the gorge on south aspects associated with exposed calcerous shale.;Steep south slope below a calcerous shale cliffband with fossiliferous plates exfoliating off. Moderately deep red soil. The overstory is fairly even aged. The soil has several large exposed sections probably do to colluvial activity.
