This is the first plot in this community type, but it will be repeated on the cool northern acidic cove slopes. Directly below the plot there is a large cliff face. Below this is a hemlock, mixed-meso community all the way to Indian Branch. Across Indian branch on the southern exposure, it is mostly the matrix oak - hickory community (see point INDIAN BRANCH A071018A.cor) with a few patches of Pinus virginiana - Carya spp. dry acid clifftop (see BLUE.30).;Cool, steep, moist northern slope. Loose shaley cliff breaks with obvious slides. The forest floor undulates with hollows and swales created by the slides.
Representativeness
Large patch of cool acidic cove forest. The plot is dominated by Tsuga canadensis with some Tilia americana also found in high numbers. This is the first plot surveyed of its kind. The plot was placed here to identify the evergreen arial signature.
