Up the ridge line from the plot the community remains much the same, a fusion of the rival aspects. Over the hill north of the plot the community is a cool, acidic, hemlock cove. South of the plot is the matrix community. Directly below the plot W is a large acid sandstone cliff.;The plot is located on the nose of a narrow ridge. There is a large sandstone cliff break at the lower edge of the plot. The forest appears young. There are fire scars on some T2 trees and stumps. Several maple and oak trees are already losing their leaves. Perhaps a result of the over abundance of rain this season. The narrow ridge surrounded by multiple aspects has created some community overlap here.
Representativeness
Small patch dry acidic ridge top. The community is a hodge podge of evergreens Pinus strobus, Tsuga canadensis, Rhododendron maximum, and Kalmia latifolia. The dominant overstory tree is Quercus coccinea.
