Across gully to south is a rocky slope with tulip poplar (cooler aspect). To the North is a smaller bench with rock piles. There is a canopy gap and small bed rock ledge uphill from the plot.;Gorge slope with a west aspect in a bowl where the aspect changes. Plot is on a slope crest between two small drainages . The forest is dominated by red oak, white oak, and hickories with shade tolerant species (Acer saccharum, Fagus grandifolia) coming up. Ageratina altissima and Cimicifuga racemosa are conspicuous in herb layer. There is a wide range in pH between the A and B horizons.
Representativeness
Large patch forest with fluctuating dominance by oak and hickory in warmer positions and tulip poplar in the cooler areas. More mature forest than most for this slope.
