Just inside park boundary at top of gorge. Downslope in all directions is matrix oak-hickory which grades to sugar maple-buckeye-basswood on north slope into draw. Flame azalea blooming under old scarlet oak. Downhill from plot there is big-tooth aspen.;Gently sloping ridge top with forest of large white pine, black oak, and scarlet oak with huckleberry patch in understory. Very low herb diversity, huckleberry may be adapted to relatively sunny understory caused by canopy gap. Putative old second growth after fire or clearing.
Representativeness
Pine-oak/ericad variant with abundant huckleberry, continues down ridge top with patches of Kalmia or blueberry. Patch with huckleberry dominance probably about 0.1 ha., total pine-oak patch is larger.
