The River is ca. 100m East from the plot. The backchannel is ca. 100m West of the plot. Backchannel has open water with Carex 'bromoides' under Sycamore and dense Verbesina alternifolia.;Flat upper terrace forest with a fairly dense herb layer and a heavy shrub component. This is one type of the Liriodendron tulipifera successional forest. Here it occurs with white pine but it also occurs in almost pure stands. Fairly large cover of garlic mustard.
