This community runs upslope ca. 150m all the way to the boundary between Pipestem State Park and Bluestone National Scenic River. Although no boundary markers were seen. The slope here is a series of parallel North facing spurs and draws running to the river. The photo signatures are repeated. See Blue.67 and Blue.68 for details on the adjacent communities. Also, there is data from 2004 collection points crossing this slope. Uphill from plot within community is a large 10m high rock face.;The plot is located on a narrow nose or ridge spur. It is dry and sparsely vegetated. The overstory is a dense cover of Quercus prinus and Tsuga canadensis. Both to the East and West the slope drops quickly into steep draws running parallel with the ridge. The lower half of the plot has a lot of hemlock regeneration, mostly in the T3. No adelgids seen, however many of the hemlocks have some needle loss. The area is steep without any trails until the river. It feels very isolated but for the sound of weedwackers and the tram at Mt. Creek Lodge.
Representativeness
Medium sized patch of a rock oak-hemlock forest occurring in a relatively thin band on a narrow ridge spur. This day of surveying was planned to survey the repeated arial signatures on parallel ridge spurs and coves.
