Between this community and the river line is a thin band of Carex emoryi (see BLUE.78). Above the plot is a thin patch of Tsuga canadensis changing to a mesic oak forest.;This is a riverside woodland community subject to frequent flooding. There is a very sparse shrub layer and a dense tall herb layer dominated by Chasmanthium and Dichanthelium. This community is repeated several times along this strech of the river. The community is hemmed in on one side by the river and on the other side by the trail.
Representativeness
Small patch of woodland community dominated by Platanus occidentalis - Betula nigra. This plot is similar to plots sampled at the New River Gorge.
