Down slope on the North slope grades to scarlet oak - hemlock, then to mixed meso; western and southern aspect changes to an oak ericad.;Flat top of ridge spit between Tony Hollow and a tributary. Residual soil on mudstone (shale) strata. The surface is very planer, tilted to the west. The forest community is dominated by Quercus alba in the tall canopy. There are some nice large trees including some huge trees on private land. There is a rather dense sub canopy of white pine and sourwood. Not much down wood present in plot , possible second growth after fire.
Representativeness
This is a medium size patch of older white oak; extends uphill onto private land with similar composition. This is an unusual position for a plateau inside the park boundaries.
