See BLUEO.21, BLUEO.20, and any others completed today.;Medium size patch of early-late successional forest. The river has created a backchannel to the river right. It appears to be nonflowing "currently". Throughout the forest are high water levee bars creating a channel system throughout the island. At the upriver end of the plot wash bars with trash and twig debris have settled in. The soil is alluvial sand and is covered by leaf litter. Red oak and Tsuga are the dominant species of the T2 strata, T3 is dominated by red maple, S1 has a heavy growth of Rhododendron maximum. Herbaceously the ground cover is near 0%. The dense S1 Rhododendron maximum is probably the photo signature for this community. The island may flood semi-annually or more.
Representativeness
Medium size patch of mid-late successional hemlock and oak. The plot was placed here to represent the red shaded community of the leaf-off infa-red aerial photography. This plot is similar to cites sampled north of Pilot Ridge down along the river.
