The plot is on a shoulder slope just below a small patch of ridgetop. There is very little ridge top within the boundary of the study area. It is much the same as the plot only this was the better patch. For more context see observation point and plots from 08/23 & 08/25. There is a barbed wire fence and a farm road across the boundary south of the plot ca 120m.;This is a nice stand of possible old growth rock oak. The plot is placed in a concentration of the oldest oak trees but the entire ridge is composed of red and white oaks of mixed age with lots of fire scarring and burned stumps. There are large downed barkless "oak" trees in and around the plot. There are no sawn stumps in the plot but on the ridge above there are a few. Nice structure in the stand. Little herbaceous cover in the plot and the forest floor feels rocky and somewhat cool. The plot is located on what appears to be a slight bench.
Representativeness
Narrow patch of mature Quercus prinus forest. Similar to the plot completed on the Ridge spur above Tony Hollow (BLUE.90). This patch is slightly larger and the trees are larger.
