This is a medium sized floodplain/alluvial fan with mostly young successional forest or woodland. This area is likely to receive a mixture of tributary, main channel flooding, and occasional backup behind Bluestone Dam.;Floodplain/alluvial fan at the mouth of a large tributary system. This is a successional woodland on an upper floodplain which was probably cleared for agriculture. This area could possibly been cleared for growing the dominant tree ,Juglans nigra, which grows here as a grove over Lindera benzoin and Verbesina occidentalis. The clearing on the floodplain is shown on the topo map but there are scattered trees throughout the woodland/savana physiognomy. The soils may be limestone influenced.
Representativeness
The plot covers about 1/5 of a small patch of floodplain dominated by Juglans nigra and is near the upper elevation of the patch so it is somewhat dryer and rockier than lower down.
