The New River is ~300m northwest of the plot, with mowed fields in the floodplain and campsites running the length of the river north from the plot.;The plot is dominated by a mixture of oak species, including black, white and scarlet. The subcanopy is a mixture of red maple, ash and dogwood. There is some oak regeneration in the S2, though ash and maple are more common. The forest is fairly young with a large number of trees in the S1 with less than 7cm dbh. There are many sassafrass snags throughout the area. There are several rock piles just outside the plot. The area was likely cleared for agriculture.
Representativeness
Plot was chosen to sample oak dominance on a dry aspect.
