Evergreen signature to south along power line cut is successional pine (virginia, pitch, table, mountain). Deciduous forests on ridge are oak-hickory (rich and poor types).;Steep upper slope on north aspect undercut by Indian Creek. Soils derived from shale. Community is a mixed evergreen-deciduous forest dominated by hemlock and mixed oaks (white, black, chestnut). Most oaks are leaning downslope and there are scattered downfall with tip mounds. Larger hemlock are standing straight. There are old rotted stumps, possibly from past logging and/or fire.

Small-medium patch of hemlock-oak forest - sterile variant with no herbs (= hemlock-chestnut oak at Bluestone NSR).
