Chestnut oak / heath (sparse Kalmia latifolia) downslope - nice large trees. Levels below are younger forests. Ailianthus forest under lower cliffs. Cliffs were seen from I-79 and I-79 can be seen and heard from cliffs.;Sandstone rimrock outcrop on shoulder of ridge with steep rocky slope below with exfoliated boulders. Bedrock is blocky with near horizontal bedding and fractures. Outcrop is shaded in season, by large chestnut oaks. A few saplings and shrubs are rooted in ledges. Rock faces include dry areas under overhangs with low lichen diversity, and exposed areas with higher diversity including macro lichens and mosses. The cliff ranges from 5-10 m tall with 10 % ledges and 10% overhangs.
Representativeness
Small patch lithomorphic habitat. Plot samples entire rock outcrop / cliff face ~ stem counts only include trees rooted with rock above and below. Similar outcrops are scattered locally, can be seen from highway.
