Near Brooke Hills Park with developed ridge tops and forested ravines. Most forests in park are successional on rich soils, but some older patches may represent more natural vegetation. Oak forest continues uphill from plot, making a significant patch for this area.;Southwest facing hillslope above the headwaters of a small stream. Soils are derived from sandstone, in contrast to nearby soils which have very few rocks and are lime-influenced. Forest here is dominated by large red and black oaks. Site is near property boundary and may have been an unlogged buffer. There is a tip mound and rotting downfall just out of plot`on the other side of a sawn stump.
Representativeness
Small patch of remnant oak forest, possibly representing historical or potential vegetation. Also represents strong contrast to other plots in vicinity on lime-enriched soil.
