Road is below plot. Above plot grades to drier oak community (CABE.2). Shoulder on top has narrow zone more acidic oaky-ashy forest with some heliophytes.;North facing terrace bluff overlooking a broad floodplain of Ohio River. Lower terraces support a mixed mesophytic forest with beech, buckeye, basswood. Sugar maple is dominant in subcanopy and tall shrub layers. Tall shrubs also include state rare Fraxinus quadrangulata. Herb layer includes rich site species, but composition and diversity are affected by deer herbivory.
Representativeness
Linear band near base of terraced bluff, probably the most extensive community on bluff face. Plot placed to include huge beech and good mix of trees and sedges.
