State Forest with in holdings and gas leases. None the less there are extensive tracts of forest away from roads. Upslope grades to more deciduous trees and ultimately to oak forest on ridge top. Hemlock is abundant all the way to the top at this aspect.;Forest of tall Tsuga canadensis and Fagus grandifolia with the same species regenerating in the understory. Steep slope near bottom of narrow drainage. There is little Rhododendron maximum in the vicinity and none in this hemlock stand which distinguishes these woods from typical TSCA forests elsewhere in WV. Forest seems even aged and there is little wood or snags. Secondary forest after clearing.
Representativeness
Typical plot in this large patch stand - includes most of the lesser trees (Liriodendron , Fagus, Tilia) in addition to Tsuga, which is dominant throughout at this elevational band.
