The opening is surrounded on the north and east by a Abies / Alder woodland, and to the south and west a Picea rubens - Tsuga canadensis - Betula alleghaniensis forest. The area is within the state park so the major threats are deer herbivory and park visitors.;Early successional graminoid community. Historically logged and cleared for agriculture. Opening probably maintained by beaver and flooding. There ia an old fence line along the north edge of the plot. The area was probably grazed by cattle. A small colonial clump of Yellow Iris is growing in the plot.

Small patch graminoid community along a small seep. Much wetter than the previous plot (CASP.23).
