The plot is at the base of a small east flowing cove emptying in the Right Fork of Buffalo Creek. The stream is roughly 50m away. The park road is just across the stream. Up the drainage ~300ft is the zoo and the loop trail. See plot CLSP.6. Upslope the cove becomes steep and "V" shaped and this forest type continues.;Shady and somewhat mesic deciduous forest dominated by tulip poplar, sugar maple and yellow buckeye. Herb cover is moderate but mostly consists of Diplazium pycnocarpon and Carex spp. The plot is straddling a small ephemeral stream at the bottom of a cove. The channel is dry at the time of the survey but there is little if any litter accumulation in it. There is likely a lush early season flora but it has either passed or been browsed by deer.
Representativeness
Large patch of mixed-mesophytic forest growing in an east facing draw running into the Right Fork of Buffalo Creek. This is similar to the upper and mid slope mesic forests sampled yesterday CLSP.3 & 4. Plot was placed to sample possible Synandra site b
