Landscape Narrative ? This area in the back of Canaan SP has extensive beaver influenced wetlands including balsam fir and spruce woodlands, shrublands of Spiraea alba and Hypericum densiflorum, and herbaceous openings.;Swamp woodland with historical dominance by Abies balsamea, most larger trees now dead due to adelgid infestation. Abies regeneration is best on dryer ground just outside plot but there are few older trees there. Abies is mostly in wetter fingers while slightly dryer areas are dominated by spruce or shrub/grasslands.
Representativeness ? Small patch balsam fir swamp with fir dead and dying from adelgid infestation. Plot has variable hydrology due to wetland finger microtopography. Dryer microsites have Danthonia compressa, Pteridium aquilinum, etc... (see Other Measure1 in plot-species ta
