2nd growth forest occurring within the boundary of Cacapon S. P. To the E is the Nature Center and a large field w/ picnic tables and other park ammenities. The area here was a farm before the park.;Large floodplain covered with sandstone colluvium. The forest here is dominated by White Oak with Asimina triloba in the shrub layer. The geology layer has the area mapped as limestone but after careful observation no surficial limestone was observed. Surficial water flow from ephemeral drainage crosses edge of plot.
Representativeness
Large patch of Oak forest growing on what is mapped as Helderberg Limestone. Plot was placed to sample the limestone. However no obvious limestone was found.
