Cooler aspects support red oak dry-mesic forest (CECR.1);Upper slope, south exposure with exposed sandstone bedrock. Community is a forest strongly dominated by somewhat knarled stunted chestnut oak. Canopy is fairly open with deadfall scattered in stand. Possible past oak mortality from gypsy moth? Sourwood appears to be sick.
