Small patch of federal land on Chesapeake and Ohio NHP. This backchannel is bounded by a river scour woodland on one side and rich floodplain forest on the banks , both under NPS ownership.;One meter deep backchannel of Potomac River with cobble and sand bottom and nearly imperceptible current, but fully connected to the main channel, at least at this upstream end. Stand also seen near Paw Paw and veg. community probably repeats in suitable habitat all along the Potomac River.

Plot was placed to sample central (deepest) portion of backwater channel, which is vegetated with eel grass.
