The plot is located within Chief Logan SP. 20m below the plot is a hiking trail. 20m below that is Buffalo Creek. Across the creek is a small pavilion and the Park Rd. upslope the forest becomes more red oak- beech dominated.;Dry deciduous forest growing on a steep west facing shale slope. The overstory is dominated by Quercus alba with a dense understory of Acer rubrum and Fagus grandifolia. The forest floor is covered by graminoids, mostly Carex pensylvanica and scattered maps of Leucobryum moss. Most of the forbs are deer browsed.
Representativeness
Somewhat dry oak forest on a westerly aspect. Plot was placed to sample a more sterile oak type than the last plot which was oak-hickory-sugar maple. This plot is oak-red maple.
