Wildlife Management Area with mostly younger weedy, successional forest. Matrix on opposite aspect is oak-hickory (CONA.1). Bottom has mowed camp area and a reservoir.;North aspect on a terraced hill slope in a dissected plateau landscape. Community is a deciduous forest dominated by small to medium size, even-aged ash and cherry. Pole-size and sapling sugar maples dominate the sub canopy. There is a lot of exposed soil due to rapid decomposition of leaf litter and abundant windfall from density dpendent tree mortality.
Representativeness
Large patch of successional, semi-natural type of mesophytic forest on cool aspect. Sampled to represent a common successional type on richer soils - similar forests observed at Waters Smith State Park and elsewhere.
