Just uphill towards trail is a sloping wetland shrub community ( Photinia etc.). Further out into swamp grades to a deciduous and conifer swamp. Large wetland is surrounded by roads, residential, and agricultural land.;Herbaceous community dominated by Carex utriculata, over mossy hummocks and standing water. Flooding hypothesized to be entirely by ground water rather than overbank flooding. Far removed from any channelized flow. Some areas where the Sphagnum quakes. Vegetation appears acid however there is a large discrepancy between the pore water pH and the pH of the soil.
Representativeness
Small patch area with a clear dominance by Carex utriculata. Community is very uniform except a couple clumps of Viburnum recognitum and Photinia with an herb moss physiognomy.
