Facing up river, Camp 70 road is to the left ca. 250 m and the river is on the right 50-80 m. This community may repeat down the seep NW towards the river and up seep SE towards the upland. Towards the river along the floodplain is an interesting Tsuga canadensis / Alnus rugosa woodland/forest sampled by JPV & BPS and a more traditional Alnus rugosa shrubland.;Area seems to be fed by upland seepage. Water may also seep from ground flow from the river. The seep quickly transitions to upland in two directions. Cataegus is growing on the edges of the seep on a drier aspect escaping the moisture. Throughout the seep the Oa horrizon is >50 cm and is very dark and alluvial suggesting occassional flooding during periods of extremely high water. These floods probably maintain this early successional stage.
Representativeness
Community encompasses most of an old oxbow formed by river. Small patch herbaceous community dominated by Juncus and Glyceria. Plot was placed here to sample the oxbow signature seen on the aerial photography.
