This plot is located within an old selective harvest. It appears that several large tulip poplars were cut from the site. This has created several canopy gaps. These openings are dominated by young birch saplings. The upper portion of the plot is covered with large moss covered sandstone cobbles. The lower portion by ferns. Overall species diversity is low.
Representativeness
This plot is a representative sample of the forest type prior to the recent logging. The canopy consists of red oak with a small contingent of Black cherry. The forest floor is dominated by Dryopteris intermedia and Dennstaedia punctilobula.
