Pringle Creek runs orange with Acid Mine Drainage. Several old strip mines and shaft mines are upstream of this plot. This plot lies at a lower angle slope between the creek and a much steeper slope above. The steep-sided slopes of Pringle Run continue as the creek merges with the Cheat River. Steep slopes border this river in this area. The hemlock-rhododendron community is typically found in the less steep areas adjacent to the creek. Mixed hardwoods surround this community type.;Pringle Creek is located 30 m from the plot's lower edge. Large sandstone boulders covered with moss are found throughout the plot.
Representativeness
This area is typical of the Hemlock forest found on the northern low slope of Pringle Creek. Tsuga canadensis and Rhododendron maximum dominate.
