Pringle Creek runs orange with Acid Mine Drainage. Several old strip mines and shaft mines are upstream of this plot. This plot lies at a lower angle slope between the creek and a much steeper slope above. The steep-sided slopes of Pringle Run continue as the creek merges with the Cheat River. Steep slopes border this river in this area. The hemlock-rhododendron community is typically found in the less steep areas adjacent to the creek. Mixed hardwoods surround this community type.;Very disturbed area previously from mining, with slag piles, rail beds, and road beds. Lower shrub layer dominated by Rhododendron maximum, upper canopy deciduous (F. grandifolia), and sparse ferns in herbaceous layer. Homogenous along a band following the creek. A road cuts above and below the plot, and a small ephemeral drainage cuts downslope on one side of the plot.
Representativeness
Representative of the Rhododendron maximum--Tsuga canadensis band which runs along Pringle Creek. This zone has largely been disturbed and disected with mining sites and road beds.
