Old growth block with several forest types. WMA is owned by Army COE and surrounds a large reservoir. Old growth shifts to rich oak-hickory-sugar maple on shale derived soil to south.;Convex shoulder of side ridge, on north aspect, in a dissescted plateau landscape. Site is dryer than last plot, may have a warmer aspect, or this may be related to geology break from shale to sandstone. Forest is old growth with criss-crossed downfall isable on air photo. This community is dominated by very large chestnut oaks over red maple in the subcanopy. Subcanopy also includes other shade tolerant species (sourwood, gum, beech). Blueberries are sparse. Herb layer is very sparse, with a a few sprigs of palatable forbs.
