Adjacent oak-hickory forest is old growth patch with huge red oaks. Across the drainage to the north are caged animal exhibits. Landscape is mosaic of small forest block and agricultural fields (hay, pasture).;Mid-slope bowl in a hilly dissected plateau landscape. Plot has small beech, with tuliptree, red oak, and sweet birch. Herb layer is dominated by New York fern, with increased cover in light gaps. There are rotted stumps and dead beech wood in plot. Plot includes cover of huge red oak (103 cm dbh) just above plot.
