Large red photosignature patch may be mostly Rhododendron maximum. Surrounding forest without evergreen shrubs include oak-hickory (GARI.114) which may explain abundance of white oak, black oak in plot.;Narrow, rocky ridge spur supporting a forest dominated by oaks and hemlock over a mixture of Rhododendron maximum and Rhododendron catawbiense. Sawn stump in plot. Catawba rhododendron has greatest cover in more rocky area with smaller trees, more open canopy.
