Just downstream begins a zone of flooded hemlock -oak/Rhodo forest which we plan to sample next Across the river is a steep bank to RR grade.;Frequently flooded sparse shrubland on river scoured boulder piles. One of largest open riparian vegetation patches seen on Meadow River --appears flooded on leaf-off photography. Zonation is apparent on boulders, from silt covered to black-tar lichen, to moss and crustose lichens on top. Betula nigra are heavily coppiced with short, thick (~13 cm dbh) bases. White-wash lichen on downstream sides of boulders.
Representativeness
Plot covers about 1/3 of a small patch riparian sparse shrubland. Plot includes about 2 m range in elevation from standing water to boulder types.
