Railroad is 30 m to the south, below the plot. Gauley River is the the North and can be heard from the plot;Plot is 40 m from Gauley River. There is no obvious human disturbance here, as opposed to the other side of the river where there are multiple campsites. The trees are quite dense here. It doesn't appear to flood very often, although the forest floor is covered with large cobble stones.

Plot placed to sample small red signature across river from Sugar Creek access. Small Virginia pine community (forest). Very nice example of this community the others I have looked at were near rafting camps.
