Up slope from the plot center is a large cliff band. Ca 60 m tall. Downslope towards the river is a Hemlock dominated forest (see plot GARI.150). There is an old road at the bottom of the plot.;Steep colluvial boulderfield forest. The slope is active with only the largest boulders having significant moss cover. The canopy is patchy with lots of dappled sunlight reaching the forest floor. The shrub layer is dominated by Rubus. The forest appears young except for a few large oaks. There is little sign of recent logging (no sawn stumps). It is probably kept young by the colluvial boulders. All the overstory trees show sign of slope creep.
Representativeness
Small patch of oak forest on steep south aspect. Plot was placed to sample the deciduous photo signature.
