To the east is a steep, rocky bank covered with LITU/RHMA above that is an active railroad. To the west ca. 50 m is Peter's Creek. At the upstream end of this floodplain the forest is dominated by young Tsuga. To the South ca. 0.25 miles is the Gauley River.;Successional floodplain forest dominated by Betula lenta. The plot doesn't appear to flood. There is an ATV trail running along the W end of the plot. The forest floor is covered with New York fern and Lycopodium digitatum.

Small patch of mixed deciduous floodplain forest. Plot was placed to sample floodplain along Peter's Creek.
