Upslope the forest is sub-xeric oak. Below the cliff to the south the forest appears to be oak-hickory. The river is located ca. 400 m south of the plot. There is an old road located ca. 200m NE of the plot.;Open virginia pine woodland growing above a south facing sandstone cliff. The plot would normally be hot and dry. However, at the time of the survey it raining and cool. There are several small ledges located in the plot. Under which were observed rat droppings and 2 rattlesnakes.
Representativeness
Small linear patch of virginia pine cliff top woodland. Plot was placed to sample the evergreen signature on aerial photograph. Similar to plot sampled last season above the Meadow River (GARI.66) and numerous plots from the New River.
