Dramatic cliffs across river, camp site with swimming boys. Just downstream is a large island with river birch and henlock and shrub prarie. Most upland forests in vicinity have hemlock, may be absent here due to young age.;Lower colluvial gorge slope with north aspect. Young successional forest dominated by tulip poplar, sweet birch, sassafras, and red oak with sweet pepper bush in the understory. Clumps of giant rhododendron are scattered on slope. Many trees growing in clumps (root suckers?). Lacks rich site herbs and trees (not mixed-mesophytic) due to extremely acid soil.

Placed to include a mix of tree species typical of stand and within lower slope position which supports sweet pepper bush and umbrella magnolia.
