Landscape Narrative	Nearby riverside includes house sized boulders and a sandy prairie with big bluestem and indian grass. Uphill is more cliff forming bedrock with fissures all forested with hemlock / rhododendron.;Dry cliff along river's edge. Dry conditions created by an averhang which creates dry sandy habitat for ant lions and bobcat. Rock face is dominated by crustose lichens. Cliff face partially shaded by overhanging hemlock and by river birch and sycamore rooted on sloping beach below cliff. Cliff appears to be formed of shale eroded under more resistant sandstone. May be scoured out by river.
