Taller pitch pine are back from cliff edge and below cliff. Plot inadvertantly placed with higher virginia pine on cliff edge. Oak forest below cliff with Quercus prinus, Q. rubra, and Q. coccinea.;Edge of plateau above a cliff/ledge on a spit with a southern exposure. Dry shallow soils over bedrock supports a small patch of woodland or open forest dominated by pitch pine and virginia pine with scarlet oak and a dense ericad shrub layer. Fire scarred snags and down wood present in plot. Fire scars on live pitch pine.
Representativeness
Plot covers about 1/2 of small patch of pine dominance on point of spit. Small patches similar to this are scattered on ridges and cliff tops on warm exposures in vicinity.
