Rolling plateau dissected by gas line roads (4 wheel). Forests are second growth (oak-hickory on convex slopes, tulip tree on concave positions).;Gentle, rolling plateau above the Gauley Gorge. Plot is in a convex position on a gently sloping ridge spur. Community is an oak-hickory forest with multiple size classes of oak in canopy over a subcanopy of red maple, black gum and beech saplings.
Representativeness
Placed to sample ELU 2130 (dry flat) and typical of poor oak-hickory on well drained upper slopes of plateaus. Much like the NERI oak hickory. Community occurrs in repeated patches over the landscape.
