Rolling, dissected plateau above the Gauley Gorge. Upland forests are mostly deciduous oak-hickory and successional tuliptree.;Floodplain of intermittent creek. Plot is occassionally flooded with small channels, exposed soil, and some wetland indicators. Unusual occurrence of river birch on the plateau, another indicator of riparian status. Forest is dominated by tulip tree, with blue beech prominent in understory.

Long narrow plot to sample stream terrace with braided floodplain channels. Includes skid trail, which are hard to avoid here. Smpled ELU 1123.
