Remote, free - flowing, boulder strewn river. Matrix forest dominated by Hemlock. Riparian vegetation along this reach is very narrow with a few trees rooted in scoured boulders and a few sprigs of Regal Fern.;Bouldery toeslope on cold aspect just above a high gradient / high energy river. Boulders are car to dump - truck sized. Community is a forest dominated by small to medium sized Yellow Birch with Sweet Birch and Hemlock. There is a dense shrub layer dominated by giant Rhododendron. There are voids between the boulders which limit tree establishment and survival and favor Birches - cold site favors Yellow Birch over Sweet?
Representativeness
Small patch in a narrow zone on colluvial toeslope. Also occurs on cutbank / boulderfield above the RR grade. Patches are discontinuous in a linear zone. Most herbs are in bottom riparian edge.
