Betweem this plot and GARI.32 is a back channel. Across the back channel on the island is a TsCa/RhMa community. To the E of our plot is a steep gorge slope with a mixed-mesophytic forest. The flood plain has lots of alluvial features. Levees, swales, etc. Across the narrow ridge to the S there are strip mines above.;Rich mesic Tulip poplar-sweet gum/Umbrella tree forest. Lush herb layer dominated by 2 species Mechania cordata and Duchesnea indica. Lots of sugar maple coming up in the S1 and S2 layers. According to a local man, at the put in there was an old logging camp on this floodplain in the late 1940's. Few if any signs of the camp now. Old glass jars. It seldom floods here +/- 100 yrs. There are several very tall LiTu w/ large diameters.
Representativeness
(see aerial photo)
Large patch of successional forest community covering much of the floodplain. Similar to those sampled at Bluestone but differ by having Liquidambar as a large component in the T2 layer.
